Performance report — deep dive
The Performance report shows how your site appears in Google Search.
Key metrics
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Total clicks | Visits from search |
| Total impressions | Times your URL appeared |
| Average CTR | Clicks ÷ impressions |
| Average position | Mean ranking (approximate) |
Filters to use
- Query — find keywords you rank for but don’t target
- Page — top-performing URLs
-
Country — Nepal (
npl) vs global traffic split - Device — mobile vs desktop (critical for Nepal)
- Search appearance — rich results, FAQ, video
Actions from Performance
- High impressions, low CTR — rewrite title tag and meta description
- Position 4–10, decent impressions — optimize content, build internal links
- Position 1–3, declining clicks — check for SERP feature or AI Overview displacement
- Queries you don’t have content for — content gap opportunities

Indexing and Coverage (Pages report)
Status types you’ll see:
| Status | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Indexed | In search results | Monitor |
| Not indexed — Discovered, not indexed | Google knows, hasn’t indexed | Improve quality, internal links |
| Not indexed — Crawled, not indexed | Crawled but rejected | Check quality, duplicates, thin content |
| Excluded — Duplicate | Canonical elsewhere | Verify canonical tag |
| Excluded — noindex | Intentionally excluded | Confirm intentional |
| Excluded — Blocked by robots.txt | Crawl blocked | Fix robots.txt if wrong |
| Page with redirect | Redirects elsewhere | Ensure 301, one hop |
URL Inspection tool
Enter any URL to see:
- Indexing status
- Last crawl date
- Canonical Google selected
- Mobile usability
- Rich results eligibility
- Request indexing button (use after publishing/updating priority pages)

Sitemaps
- Go to Sitemaps in left menu
- Enter sitemap URL (e.g.,
sitemap.xml) - Submit — status shows “Success” when processed
- Monitor “Discovered URLs” vs “Indexed URLs”
Red flags: Large gap between discovered and indexed = quality or crawl issues.
Core Web Vitals
Shows URLs grouped by LCP, INP, CLS status: Good / Needs improvement / Poor.
| Metric | Good | Needs improvement | Poor |
|---|---|---|---|
| LCP | ≤ 2.5s | 2.5–4.0s | > 4.0s |
| INP | ≤ 200ms | 200–500ms | > 500ms |
| CLS | ≤ 0.1 | 0.1–0.25 | > 0.25 |
Fix Poor URLs first — usually image optimization, server response, or layout shift from ads/fonts.

Links report
Two tabs:
- External links — who links to you (backlink discovery)
- Internal links — which pages pass most internal link equity
Use internal links tab to:
- Find orphan pages (zero incoming internal links)
- Identify hub pages with most internal links
- Plan internal linking improvements

Manual actions and security
Check Manual actions — should say “No issues detected.”
If penalized: read the specific violation, fix it, submit Reconsideration request.
Security issues — malware, hacked content. Fix immediately; Google may deindex infected pages.
GSC + GA4 integration
Link GSC to GA4 (Admin → Product links → Search Console) to see search queries alongside on-site behavior.
| GSC tells you | GA4 tells you |
|---|---|
| Which queries drive impressions | What users do after clicking |
| Indexing problems | Conversion paths |
| CTR by query | Revenue attribution |
Use UTM parameters for paid/social — GSC only covers organic search.
